Recession: "I choose not to participate" (oh really?)

I was talking to a prospective coaching client the other day about the looming recession and the impact it has had on the mortgage industry and he responded "I know there is a recession but I choose not to participate".  Now I enjoy a good positive attitude about negative news over the opposite approach, but I'm not sure we can just sweep this one under the rug and "choose not to participate". 

After reading Noriel Roubini's written testimony for the House of Representatives Financial Services Committee on The Current U.S. Recession and the Risks of a Systematic Financial Crisis I realized how big of an issue this is and how everyone will "participate" whether they'd like to or not.  Maybe not paying attention to it will help us stay focused but if I'm competiting to win a championship football game and our star quarterback has just been severely injured, I'm going to have to participate in one form or another to still win the game.

The report is scary but I still believe that with a positive attitude you can still be extremely successful in light of the financial and credit crisis.  How do you do it?  You stay focused on the activities that bring you the biggest reward.  You get serious about training yourself for the changes and creating a strategic action plan to win the battle.  I've never liked doing FHA loans (and maybe neither did you) but as of today there seems to be no other flexible program that provides us with the opportunities to capture a borrower with a competitive program that's not standard conventional paper quality.  So take this report as your final warning.  Get focused and serious if you want to thrive in this troubled economy and take control of your marketplace.  Marketshare will be abandoned by loan officers who give up on this career and you'll be able to pick up their clients and referral partners when they exit the business if you're ready and capable.  These prospects can be added to your database even if they don't qualify today as hot prospects and if you continue to stay in contact with a value added approach and ask for referrals good things will come.
